I cant seem to get this to work.
Cable works on serial port on tower, Laptop has no serial port. I purchased a Targus USB port replicator with a serial port. That is all working fine. Loopback test confirms that the serial port is working fine.
I'm trying to program a tk-2180 with KPG-36 and none of my kenwood software can see the COM port. The proper COM port is greyed out in KPG-89D.
The only thing that I can think of, is that the KPG-36 doesnt seem to use the standard pin 2 and 3 for send and recieve, but appears to only use pin 5
Any suggestions???

I had a similar problem with some Icom software. I had to see an actual serial port and a USB adapter didn't so the trick. I think the only solution is find an old computer someplace and keep it just for that application. I acquired a 486DX laptop in the closet just for that purpose once I get a bit of time to play with it.
I don't know much about 2-way radios but I'm over 50 and can't remember not having one around. Everything from Buddy and Citi-fone to Icom and Kenwood.
