TK863G Programming problem

This is my first time programming a TK-863G I am stumpted when it comes to programming the scan function, they way I have it set the radio scans regardless of if the scan button is on or not.,when the mic is in the mic clip as soon as I take the mic out of the clip scan stops. I am ready to smash the damn thing Please Help
