I am planning to purchase several used VX-10 UHF radios for use in the GMRS/FRS band. My understanding is that in order to cover the shared GMRS/FRS frequencies I will need the 12.5khz channel spacing option. Is there any way to determine from the LABELS on the radio if this feature is installed (model number, serial number, etc.) From what I have read on the web, Vertex offered this as a FACTORY option (i.e. it is not something that can be modified via a field upgrade) and there is no information that I can find on the Vertex web site since this radio is out of production. Most of the people selling these radios on eBay either don't have the capability to program the radio or have the techincal knowledge to fully answer my questions.
