MPS with privacy module. Info needed

Post by kd6kml »

I have a batch of MPS radios here that are low split high band. They have some type of encryption or privacy module built into the back cover. Ther is a RJ45 Jjack for I assume a keyloader of some type. Switches on the top are channel guard and the other one is labeled PVT and CLR.

Comb. # P9HMA

The radios will read/write with my suitcase, but I can't seem to get any action out of them.

Questions...
What do I need to do to make them play as is?
or
I have lots of parts, can I remove the back panel module and replace wit ha normal cover and make a normal radio.
and
What's it take to make the privacy module work. I guess I need a keyloader of some sort?

My manual does not mention this model.

Thanks,
Josh

What you have are MPS with the Voiceguard or DES package. The RJ 45 is for a Keyloader which looks like a black calculator. The radios should work fine with out a keyload if the switch is in the clear position.
Its been a while since I have played with those...but if I remember you need to do some modifying to the flex or jumpers... in order to cut out the back panel. Are you getting squelch or anything else out of them????

When in CLR, the squelch control will work, but no RX on the programmed channel. The TX lite will come on, but no output, checked with spectrum analyzer. The radios seems to read/write with the suitcase OK. The radios with their original programming do the same thing. I'm thinking that all I have is a good source of spare parts (and switches to make 48 channel radios).
