Orion Scanning Question

Post by n9owr »

I have a Orion 800 Edacs remote mount mobile and I am having trouble getting it to scan. I have found reference to a "hookswitch" in the installation manual, I also have the diagram of the accessory cable that shows a wire for the hookswitch. Can I assume that a hookswitch is like a motorola hang up box? I can sellect the talkgroups that I want to scan and the scan light flashes when I press the scan button. Any help would be appreciated.

It has been a while since I worked on an Orion and I do not have a manual but I beleive there is a programming option for "hookswitch".

If this function is enabled, it will inhibit scanning if the hookswitch line is high and enable scan when it is grounded. If you do not have or need the hookswitch, the easiest thing is to change the programming.

You can try grounding the hookswitch line and see if it scans.

The scan light is flashing to indicate your mic is off hook. The Orion mic will
require your mic clip to be grounded in this configuration. A quick test is to
ground the metal hanger on the back of the mic to any known metal
structure that is grounded to the chassis (seat mount, etc.)

A gator clip lead might help facilitate this test if there is no grounded
metal close enough to the radio - streeeeeetching mic cord is a pain

ya, your mic supports the hookswitch... the clip dosent need to be grounded, just metal, it shorts the two contacts on the mic... anyway if you want to disable it, its in the keypad options
