730(G) PPM Option

Post by arosmith79 »

Hi Everyone,

I have a 730(G) series radio and I have been hearing about an option on the radio called PPM 2.0 . Is there anyone out there that can tell me what this is and how do I know if it is installed or not.

Thanks,

Mike

Usually PPM stands for Parts Per Million. It refers to frequency stability of transmitter. I think 5 PPM may be standard.

I found it in my manual. KXK-2 is the Kenwood part #. It is a temperature compensated crystal oscillator. It's a fairly simple modification.

So now the question is, why would I want a temperature compensated crystal oscillator ?
I don't know much about 2-way radios but I'm over 50 and can't remember not having one around. Everything from Buddy and Citi-fone to Icom and Kenwood.

And to add to the above question, how can you tell if it is already installed, how hard is it to get one if it's not, how difficult is it to install and does anyone have a copy of the service manual to make my life easier. I think I am done now.

TX frequency will be more stable, less drift in other words.

Dunno where to find one.

Need to pull off a PC board and flip it over as it is installed on the bottom.

I'll look at the manual and send you the info.
