VX-10 recase

Post by CuriousGeorge »

Looking to perhaps recase my VX-10 -- it has a crack in the center of the bottom of the front panel assembly, from the two-button panel all the way to the battery.

Besides the front panel assembly, do I need any other parts? Any idea how easy/hard it is to get this radio opened up?

I rarely use the VX-10 anymore so I don't want to put too much time/money into it (I normally carry two VX-800s, one VHF, one UHF) but just having the VX-10 sitting around seems like a waste.

VX-10 recase

CuriousGeorge,

The guys at rfwiz.com carry replacement parts for the VX-10. I believe that the front
panel comes without ANY of the covers, buttons and plastic window. The URL to order
parts is:

http://www.rfwiz.com/Manuals/VertexStan ... wParts.htm

Sometimes you can also find spare parts for the VX-10 on eBay.

It is fairly easy to open up. Remove the NiCad warning label from the back of the
radio, remove the two screws, lift off the keypad, remove the knobs, rubber covers
and antenna. I believe there is a nut on the knob which needs to be loosened and
then you should be able to separate the electronics from the case. Transfer
the windows, buttons, covers and speaker to the new case and re-assemble. (These
instructions are from memory as I do not have a radio in front of me)

If all of this is too much trouble, how much would you sell the radio for :)?

Thanks -- I actually got the parts and recased it already. Was fairly easy and your instructions pretty much match what was done.

As far as a sale, PM an offer is you want. I'm not set on selling it or keeping it. VX-10 UHF with antenna, recased but all original labels intact, field programming jumper, battery (unknown state) and service manual. No charger though.
