TK-380 Desplay problem ANY Ideas ??????

Post by wiz706 »

I have a question. I am using the cable and the software but I am having an intermittent problem with the radios I programmed especially with one of them. When I turn it on it will go to what looks like a screen of small g's (ggggggggggg) with 2 dots over them. When I read the radio it shows still channels still there so I reprogram it and it did again the others have done it a time or two what Am I missing?

thank you

Have you checked if there's a power-on message programmed in via the s/w?

Did you or someone else replace the display in this radio? Kenwood used two different LCD display drivers in this radio. If you replace an early style LCD assembly with a new one, there's a small utility called LCDSET.exe that installs the new-style drivers into a radio that originally had an old style display board.

The new style LCD is marked 51100NFJ-SLA-AB and is KW part number B38-089205.

The old style LCD is marked 51100NFJ-SLA and is part number B38-0814-05.

This also applies to mobiles, although the part numbers and markings are different.

Apparently somewhere through the run, Kenwood had to change vendors for the display driver and could not obtain the original ones for the rest of the run and for replacement purposes.

Of course, it's also possible that the display driver support chip is hosed.
