The only reason you guys like GE is because you can't afford Motorola

umm no. let me see what our radio inventory is,

Motorola:
10 MTX8000's (used to monitor the Sheriff's dept trunk system)
1 Sabre UHF
1 HT1000 UHF
1 MCS2000 UHF
2 Visars UHF
3 Maratrac mobiles UHF
1 Maxtrax mobile UHF
2 Spectra mobiles UHF

GE:
25 MPA Scan UHF

The motorola's we put in the vehicles, the reason why we use GE's is 1 Yes they are cheap, 2 they are EASY to program, We can issue them out to the employees and not worry too much if they break one, we have plenty more in the cabinet. We are currently in the process of replacing the old Motorola mobiles with Kenwood TK-880's

What made you change your mind?

By the way, I only have 1 Orion (VHF), 1 Kenwood TK270 and 1 Uniden SMU250KTS (UHF).

Current Motorola Inventory:
1 - Astro Saber
5 - Maxtrac (UHF)
5 - Spectra (UHF secure)
1 - Spectra (800)
4 - Systems Saber (UHF)
2 - STX821
1 - MTS2000 (UHF)
2 - MTS2000 (800)
1 - MTS2000 (VHF)
1 - MTX LS (800)
1 - MCX1000 (VHF)
3 - MCX100 (VHF)
4 - MAXTRAC (800)

I may be leaving some out, but you get the jist. The only reason I bought the Orion was to use it on an EDACS system that we were using.

Motorola maxtrac mobiles 29-36 MHz, 42 to 54 Mhz. 902-928 MHz
Motorola saber HT's VHF, UHF, UHF lo
Motorola MT500 29.6 Mhz HT

GE RANGs, 29 to 42 MHZ, 33 to 54 MHz, 222-225MHz, 440-450 MHZ all front programmable from the S990 control heads. None of the Motorola mobiles can do front programming. I still need a dang 486 PC to change the freq's on every Motorola above except for the MT500.

The Rangrs are every bit as rugged as the maxtracs, in fact I like both vendors equipment so much that I switch and use both motos and GE about 50% of the time between each.

GE HT's: MPA VHF, 220, UHF, 902-928 all front programmable. None of the motorola HT's can do this and they are every bit as rugged as the motorolas and I use the ge's as much as the motorolas.

Other older good good GEand Motos but I won't mention them.

If you were a member of batlabs and a member of radtek and you had looked closely at the members of both groups you would probably have seen that there are a good deal of us who use Motorola and GE equipment.

We are not so closed minded that we are devoted to only one vendor, lets say we know the best of both MFG equipment on both users groups.

Hmmm... on the contrary, I don't think you could afford my ASIII and accessories :o

-VHF ASIII, nicely equipped 8)
-VHF Ax Spectra's
-VHF/UHF Syntor X9000's
-Lo/VHF/UHF Syntor X's
-3 Jedi portables

So what did I get? A VHF Orion with SmartSiren and then a 64 channel hamflashed VHF M-PA.

Why? You show me a Spectra that has the Orion's channel capacity and we'll talk....or a Jedi that is FPP with 64 channels and in a real case.
The serial bus on my Orion is working for it's money.

Ok, this is going to be a productive conversation...

We'll just lock it.
