I am new at programming Kenwood product. I have a TK-350 that I am trying to program. I have the software and cable but I cannot get the software to read or write to the radio. Is there some specific procedure that must be followed or some little trick to programming this specific radio?
Any help appreciated.

There must be no problems in programming the radio. You should use KPG-22 or KPG-8 (with an external power source) programming cable. Run the program in the real DOS mode, not under Windows. At first read the radio, save to disk, then modify the data.

I must be using the incorrect program cable. The cable I have does not have an external power source. It is the cable that I use to program a TK-260/TK-360. So must not be the same cable at all. Is that correct?
Thanks,

It is the right cable. KPG-22 is powered from the COM port. Only KPG-8 needs the external power source. The cable must be seated well. And run the program under DOS.

The cable is the KPG22 and it is seated well. I am running the program under DOS mode (true DOS not windows). The COM port is COM 1. It will not allow me to select anything other than COM 1. Does it matter what version of the software I am using? I know some of the Motorola radios will not work using an older version of the software than the last version that was used to program.
Not having any luck here. Any other ideas?

The problems may occur if you try to use 5-tone-capable radios software with a DTMF-capable radio and vice versa. The proper software must work if there is no hardware malfunction. Try to set "Feature option\cloNe" to [Enable ]. If it doesn't help, report the emerging message when you try to read the radio.
COM1 has 9-pin connector, KPG22 has 25-pin connector. How do you connect them ?

HAVE YOU PUT THE RADIO IN PROGRAM MODE ????? If I remember correctly you need to hold down a couple of buttons and then turn the radio on. This sound like its the problem..... We used them years ago and so its been a while. BUT I think you held the two side buttons...(above and below PTT)and the button closest to the power knob and turn on and hold for a second. PC should pop up. This is the mode you need for it to read and write. My second guess is the bottom side button and the first and last top button and the then power on radio. IF anyone remembers the exact or correct method hopefully they will pipe in. Hope that helps

1 ADAM 12 Thank you. That was the trick to it. The function buttons above and below the PTT and the LO button (button next to the PWR/VOL knob) and turn the unit on. That brought the unit into PC program mode (display showed PC). Thank you and others for all the help!
