I've posted this query on other forums/lists, so if you've seen it before, my apologies.
Like a lot of folks, last year I took advantage of Overstock.com's sell-off of "grey market" Kenwoods--the TK-349 handheld and TK-809 mobile--and bought one of each.
I built a programming interface and bought a battery for the TK-349; it worked like a champ for a week or two then went dead. The battery is fully charged, but the radio acts as though a fuse were blown or a reverse polarity diode shot.
Does anyone know if there's some sort of SMT fuse, diode, or something that's making this radio into a paperweight? I really hate to throw away a nice-looking radio, but I also hate to spend a fortune on repair of a radio which (a) isn't type accepted--other than for ham use--and (b) only cost me $35 (less battery) to begin with.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Recipes?
