TK270, 272, 278 Display Question

Post by station house products »

Has anyone figured out how to hack any of these models so the damn display can be used as an alpha numeric?? It seems capable as it says CH. 1, CH. 2, Scan, etc. Just curious.

Why hack? The Kenwood software does it already

But is'nt that only for the models that end in a "G" (TK278G, etc.)?

OK, something else I didn't know ...

I've used the software to program 272G's and 270G's and a couple different mobiles, but didn't realize the limitations.

I don't know if this would apply, but in the programming software for a Relm RPV599A Plus (which is just a cheap knock-off of a Kenwood TK-270G), you have to set a front panel button as "Display." Once this button is pressed, it switches the display to the alpha-numeric channel name that you type in the programming software.

Why Relm did this I don't know. I think it's stupid, but I guess they thought differently. And the help screens did not tell you that you had to do this, either.

It's something to check into - to see if your Kenwood is the same way.
