vx-160?

Post by crazyboy »

Can the VX-160 450-490 bandsplit be programed to tx/rx in the 70cm ham band and can it be programmed to rx up to 509 mhz? Thanks

 No, it will not do either. With the windows software, no out of band programming. With the older DOS programs, you could go slightly but not what you need.

I must differ with the previous response.

Using the Windows CE44 software you are able to program any frequency between 400MHz and 512MHz.
I tried this on a VX160 I had with firmware version 2.01.
I doubt it will perform to spec because of the way the filtering is designed.
I haven't had a chance to check the frequency stability, sensitivity and power output, but I will post again once I get the chance to do this.
I was able to access a local 440 repeater using the radio though.
I haven't attempted programming the VX180 in this range, but I can only assume it would accept the same full range as it's virtually the same radio as the VX160.

FYI: The US VX410/417/420/427 firmaware version 1.05 will NOT go that low (450-490MHz only) using the regualr CE64 software.

Hope this is of assistance.
