TK 790--unprogrammed

Post by 4203radio »

I've a TK 790/890 dual band radio set that was not programmed from the dealer. It lit up for approximately 5 seconds and read "unprogrammed" on the display; when it was initially powered up. Then the display went out and we haven't been able to get it to light up since. The dealer connected to the radio with the TK 690/790/890 DOS based programmer. It could not connect with the radio and kept giving check power/check connections error messages.

When I push the power button; I hear relays "picking up", but nothing else. The radio also seems to be an ace at running the car battery down. We found by pushing the power button again, the radio apparently shut off as we had no further problems with the car battery.

Any ideas? Matt

Problem has been solved. A fuse was blown in on the logic board in the TK 890 (primary radio). That repaired; the radio is ready for programming. Cause of the blown fuse is believed to be a bad alternator on the car. The relay "pickup" I was hearing was the TK 790 (secondary radio) powering up.

Thanks, guys, for the help!
