VX-10 programming

I have a UHF VX-10 which I am attempting to program.

I am using a Vertex/Yaesu FRB-2 interface box which is an "early" version but works great on my VX1000 , VX2000 and FTH1011.

However , I am having problems programming the VX-10 - which comes up with an ERR 1 message - indicating the the radio is not communicating with the PC.

I have checked out the "current" Vertex/Yaesu programmers , which indicates that a VX1000 , VX2000 etc requires a VPL-1 while the VX-10 needs a CT42.

I guess there must be a "small" difference in the interfaces otherwise all Vertex radios would use VPL-1's !!!

I have checked out all my cabling (4 pole jack plug etc) which is OK.

Does anybody know the difference between the VPL-1 (FRB-2) and CT42 interfaces?

Does anybody have a CT42 circuit diagram?

Thanks

I've always used CE14 for programming the VX-10(4X). Had to use an old (ancient) IBM Thinkpad 350C running at 25mHz and good 'ol DOS. Not sure on the exact cable however...just a four segment sub-miniature plug.

Likewise , I used CE14 (tried both version 2.. and 3..) . Also was using DOS only Toshiba 486 laptop . Also tried old IBM 360E (486 50Mhz?) laptop.

I think the VPL-1 and CT42 (actually a CT29 with CT28 pig tail) is slightly different - probably "matching resisitor" is a different value on output of TTL/RS232 level converter programmer to give right voltages for programming

Is the VPL-1 cable white or black? From this site, I understand there's a difference, electrically (albiet, this reaches the limit of my diagnostic skills) Apparently, the white cable (and black-box electronics in the connector) are obsolete. http://www.rfwiz.com/vx-10_InfoDat.htm

I HAVE CE14 V3.20 WITH CT42A CABLE AND GO STRAIGHT FROM PC TO RADIO WITH NO RIB OR INTERFACE BOX.
