Does this radio need to be put into 'PC' mode to program?
Okay now, how?

No,it does not.....when using a pc.

The radio will go into program when you plug in the program cable into the mike jack and read or write to the radio using the programing software. It is either KPG25d or KPG29D software. Darn that Kenwood I can never remember their numbers. Motorola isn't any better.
