The Radio Information Board

I have 2 Icom H-16s that I recieved that do not want to take certain frequencies, was there a narrow band or other version produced? I can't get it to take frequenices such as 146.670 or 155.4300, unless I ener them in as .6750 or .6725... But they took 156.800 etc.. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Not a Icom commercial person... Thanks.

I can't find any info on that model but from what you describe, your synthesizer operates on 25/12.5/6.25 steps. This would be typical of a radio made for US Govt or foreign use instead of the 15/5 steps on a radio for US FCC channels.

I located a copy of a service manual for the H16.

It says there are 3 models:

-01 148-174 MHz 25 Khz
-02 136-144 MHz 25 KHz
-03 148-174 Mhz 12.5KHz

In the synthesizer circuit description it says the 01 and 02 models use a divisor of 5 and the 03 uses a divisor of 12.5.

So, it looks like you have an "03" that will only accept frequencies divisible by 12.5 and the other models will do 5KHz steps.

It is not clear from the manual what the hardware and firmware differences between the 2 models are but they are different radios, not something that can be changed in the programming software.
