The Radio Information Board

I have TK-730HG, while programming a new Fire Dept. freq. in our area into it, I encountered a problem. The recieve freq. is 151.25750 , but when I enter that freq. and hit the enter key it changes to 151.25625 .
I tried entering it in two different files one wide only, and one with wide narrow selection. Same results both files, any ideas ? Thanks, Tom

The TK-730, like most other older VHF radios, is not capable of operating on the new narrow band splinter frequencies. This has been discussed on here many times.

It's possible that it IS a narrowband radio (sorry, I forget the model suffix #),
because it seems to display a true 6.25 KHz channel (.25625). The original freq you input was NOT a correct 12.5 KHz channel (.2575 should be .2375 or .2625)
Anyway, if someone can post the narrowband model suffix that should put the question to rest once and for all.

The "narrow band" version does international/government 12.5/6.25KHz channels but it is NOT capable of the FCC 7.5KHz bandplan.

I have the same problem. I have a TK-730H(G) which is supposed to be the narrowband compliant version(unless someone can explain why it isnt) I also have entered the recieve freq of 154.8525 and 154.8500 showed up. When I entered the transmit freq of 158.9325, the freq of 158.93125 showed up. This seems wierd. Also, I replaced the e-promms for a 32 ch. version with 160 ch. version. can anyone help out more?? Thanks much!!

P.S. After reading further, I did not remove the R-156 or R-33 resistors before programming or putting power to the radio. The radio works, but when trying to program the radio in the 160 ch mode, I get gibbersh in the alpha display. I did program it back into 32 ch mode with the new eepromms. i hope I didnt hurt anything. Thanks again!!

See my previous reply. The 730H(G) is "narrow band compliant" for the international/government channels which are 12.5/6.25KHz spacing but it, like almost every other radio designed before the FCC adopted the non-standard 7.5KHz band plan, is not capable of the new FCC narrow band channels. The synthesizer is designed to handle 5 and 6.25KHz steps and is not capable of the 2.5KHz steps required to operate on the new FCC channels.

It is capable of operation under narrow band standards on any of the original FCC 15KHz channels.

If you want to use the new FCC channels, you need to get a new radio designed after the FCC plan was adopted.
