Programming LTR Trunking

Post by radiocheck »

I'm Interested in programming trunking to receive only using a Kenwood Radio TK981 But have'nt Played around with the LTR system Before and have some Questions that you Guys might be able to answer.

1/ when programming LTR, do you need a system key like the Motorola System?

2/ Do the radio affilate with the system?

Thanks

I have noticed that some groups use more than 1 talk group, Some Dispatchers TX on One and Rx on another, Some use Multiple groups to TX and Rx and everyone associated with that group follows along,

Is that the way each radio is Programmed? or the Repeater?

Thanks!

What you describe is set-up in the programming of the radio. Much like entering a transmit and receive frequency when programming a conventional channel, when you program an LTR channel the SW gives you the ability to enter Encode group and Decode group.

You'll need to find out what frequencies are assigned to what repeater numbers in order to make a radio that will "follow" the group.

Repeaters are numbered from 1 thru 20 (they can be in sequence, but, usually skip numbers) (unless there are 20 channels in the system)
Example for 5 chan system: 1,5,9,13,17 or 2,6,10,14,18 etc.

Each repeater number has a frequency assigned to it.
Then you assign a home repeater number(1-20) and a talk group number(1-250)

Go to radio reference.com http://www.radioreference.com/forums/

Another good link: http://www.weavercomm.com/ltr.html

They have more info on all kinds of trunked stuff.

Best of luck.

There is only 1 Tower for this System, I have the home channels and the system Has 18 frequency's. would it Not use all the frequency's in the system if the control channel is in use when you PTT since there is No Particular order the system fallows?????

Thanks for the Info!
