Problem with upgrading TK-330 with KCT-2 (100 ch kit)

Post by N3AAG »

Hi all!

I tried to upgrade 20 ch factory version of TK-330 ("TK-330 20" - No Keyboard Display / 20 ch) with KCT-2 (100 ch accessory kit), but no luck.

Top has been replaced as described in Service Bulletin and additional memory chip has been soldered.

Radio type has been changed in KPG-11D to the appropriate 100 ch version ("TK-330 100" - No Keyboard Display / 100 ch / Factory Set).

But new data can't e uploaded - software tries to upload new data, but no successfully and shows error message "Check connection" or something similar.

Connection and programmer is ok - 10 ch data can be programmed and radio works fine.

But I need run it as 100 ch radio.

May be some additional actions necessary? For e.g. jumper soldering, PROM erasing or any other?

I have no full service manual - only KCT-2 Service Bulletin.

Please help!

There is a 0 ohm jumper resistor that needs to be pulled off the board to enable 100 channels. PM me your email address and I'll send you a picture. I actually converted a TK330 into 100 channels using parts from a scrap 330. I didn't add the extra memory but it still took about 50-60 channels depending upon the size of the channel names.

This is picture of TK-x30 with marked "channel" and "scan" jumpers (thanks to ka7wnf):

May anybody specify exact jumper configuration for 100 ch version of TK-x30?

What should be removed from these two jumpers ("100 channel" and "20 channel"), and what is left?

Hi all!

Photo of factory 100 ch. radio:

As you can see, both "channel" jumpers must be removed to run Kenwood in 100 configuration.

I have a full function 100 channel alpha radio. I don't have a programming cable but I know how to field program. However I cannot figure out how to reprogram the alpha display from the keypad. Anyone know how or if it is even possible?

You can't, the only way to enter the alpha is with the cable and software. I have a copy of the programming instructions that I can send to you. I need to scan it first so it won't be right away. I also have a schematic for a cable that I can send you.
