i just recently learned that there is a hhch option for the orion radios. can anybody post some pics, or point me to a website that has some pics.
how hard are these to find on the used market?
do you have to have a special interconnect board like the motorola w3?
what is the part number(s) for this item?
does it use the same control cable as the scan and system head?
thanks for any help on my info gathering mission.

Re: Orion hand held control head info wanted
Hey, new member to this forum (decided to finally stop lurking..) about to ask basically the same questions..
Its called a HHC.. I've personally used these controllers before and they are slick.. More of a cell phone (car type) feel than a motorola HHCH.

From what I've gathered, you do not need any other special parts other than the control head. You may if you want to do a dual head setup.. I'm sure someone with more experience with these will chime in shortly..
I've poked around fleabay a little, with no returns.. I would be interested in getting one of these as well. If I find out any more info I'll post it.
Some other links I've stumbled across regarding this controller: (including photos)

Re: Orion hand held control head info wanted
From Macom you can only purchase the HandHeld Controller as a kit which also includes a special "T" cable to interface the HHC to the control cable and an output for the options cable. Do not connect the HHC directly into the control cable, it will fit as one side is a DB25 male and the other DB25 female but the pinouts are not the same. You probably won't fry anything but it won't work right. Besides, you need to break it out for the speaker connection anyway. Also in the kit is a special mic clip which sticks out a little further than normal and is angled.
As far as dual head setup, yes you can set it up with another HHC or a regular scan or system control head.

Anyone got a estimate on cost for this kit? (new and used?) Any other sources than manufacturer?

Resurecting this one from the dead...
Looking forward to getting my HHC in the mail. Once it's here and working right, I'll throw another post up with thoughts and/or photos.

Re: Orion hand held control head info wanted
I got my HHC installed on the Orion today. Installation was a snap with everything completed within an hour. I had to give my Orion a firmware uplift from G36.x as the HHC manual states the Orion series needs to be a G41.x or higher. I did this with system head attached, then swapped heads and blew the radio with a HHC file. No conflicts of any kind to report.
The HHC is a neat item and I will using it from here on out in any future Orion/M7100 installs I have since it replicates the system control head. The display actually says "SCN" "TX" and "RX" as opposed to the LED's on the full size head. All channel names and button mapping can be displayed/replicated on the HHC.
Unlike the Spectra HHCH from mother /\/\, this product is a snap to use and you lose no functionality. I have full control of the Orion, SS2000-ERCSN and SVR200 with either head.
