VX-10 Problem

I recently purchased a VX-10 from a friend. I used it at work the day I got it with no problem. I brought it home and put it in the charger and everything was ok. I took it out at tried to transmit and it shut off. I put it back in the charger and it powered up, but now when i take it out of the charger it just shuts off. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it?
