TK-880 Power Up problem

Today, after making some programming changes to my UHF TK-880 and uploading the changes I found that the unit would not power up unless I had the programming cable (connected to the serial port of the PC) plugged in to the mic jack. As long as the programming cable is plugged in, the radio will power up but when I plug in the mic (or leave the jack empty) the radio will not power up.
Has anyone ever seen this before? If so, what can be done to fix the problem. This is odd because the radio has worked fine for quite a long time prior to this.
