Looking to see what people have heard about ADP support for EFJ 5100 radios.

I know this is a very old post, but the answer is 99% NO. This is like asking if Ford will ever have OnStar on their vehicles.

ADP is a Motorola patented encryption standard, not a published federally approved draft that any manufacturer could use. It is designed as a cheap implementation of encryption to prevent casual evesdropping, and cost hundreds less per radio than the much stronger, FIPS approved Level 3, 2 or 1 modules that must be installed on Motorola radios for the DES, AES, using OFB or CFB algos. Just like Transcrypt (EFJ) has their own patented encryption standard in analog and digital voice encryption like Transcrypt 460 and Dark Star respectively. No other manufacturers would be able to implement it without licensing it.

Now, is it possible EFJ *could* license ADP? Of course anything is possible, they did license SmartNet and SmartZone from Motorola after all. But this is different and not very likely at all.

AFAIK ADP is an implementation of the RC4 algorithm. Moto doesn't own RC4, so I guess if EFJ wanted to implement it they could, but they would have to call it something else...
