RS-5300 Programming Question (v2.8.15)

Hello!

I have an older VHF RS-5300, (v3.17.21 / v2.8.15), and I was wondering what the proper programming cable / PCC version I need to program the radio? I have a USB 023-5300-980 cable, but don't know if I can use it on this radio.

Thanks very much for your help!

Steve

I guess there's the other question: can I upgrade the firmware for this radio? Not sure if or how I would do this...?

Thanks for any help!

Last release is 2.18.15 and would need PCC 1.28.0.8.
USB was not supported with that version of PCC so you'd need an RPI box and -005 cable along with a normal serial cable to go between the comp and the RPI box.

Just as an FYI... We currently stock 5300 programming cables (no RPI required, i.e. "RIB-less" all in one RS-232 to radio cable) for all of the EFJ configurations (HHC, Lightning head, keyloader, etc. cables too). If you refer to this forum by using discount code 'RIFS', shipping is free. Significantly less cost than the EFJ cables/RPI box setup.

Serial cables are generally less problematic with compatibility (sw, firmware, PC) than USB cables for the 5300's.
