Programmer for various...

Post by kc2ixe »

At this point, a buddy and I have accumulated enough GE gear that it's REALLY time to look at a programmer. We would like to be able to program the following:

Phoenix
Delta/Rangr (s-990)
MCS
MVS
PLS
MPA

What's the best/cheapest way to go?

Programmers

Post by k6sjh »

For the MPA and Ranger I know that the programmer that Price Industires makes works great. Those are the only 2 I have tried it on. They are great to deal with if you have problems. I goofed and burned up my programming interface. They repaired it at no cost. I was amazed.

Also, if you haven't been to Hall Electronics, there is a wealth of information on his site, including information on which programmers will work with which radio.

I would second the vote for Price Industries. I have the P96 and cables for the M-PA, M-RK, and KPC. All have worked just fine.

As k6sjh has said, good customer service as well.

price P96 rib all the way.

As for the speed of the PC, I have used various pentiums running under true dos for my MPDs, MPAs and S825s but for the MCS even a 33 MHZ 486 was way to fast, I had to drop down to a 386 for the MCS so keep this in mind when actually sitting down and programming.

Now the Phoenix requires a totally different programmer and it would take to much time to go over that radio. I cannot give you any info on the other radios in relation to the type of PC to use although I believe the PCS should take the same type of PC as the MPA, that is, running true dos on a medium speed PC should be OK.

The P96a is here. No rush to try it, as the local GE shop did my MPA for me Monday

Believe it or not, I just did an M-PA with a 2.66 Pent IV in a dos shell, using sw v 11.1

I wouldn't necessarily advocate it, but it did work. Go figure.
